Biography

Andrés Izquierdo advises governments, international organizations, universities, creative industries, and technology companies on intellectual property, artificial intelligence, design law, and digital-platform regulation. His practice focuses on the global legal frameworks that govern innovation, creativity, and data-driven technologies, with a particular emphasis on Latin America, the Andean Community, Europe, and the United States.

With a career spanning private practice, multinational entertainment companies, academic research, and treaty-level policy work, Andrés brings a rare combination of practical industry experiencecomparative legal expertise, and international policy insight. He has served as counsel to the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) at American University Washington College of Law and to the Geneva Graduate Institute in Switzerland, where he contributes to research on global IP governance and development policy.

Andrés’ work includes advising on national copyright reforms, contributing to international negotiations such as the WIPO Design Law Treaty, supporting universities and libraries in building text and data mining (TDM) and AI policies, and guiding digital platforms on intermediary liability and online compliance. His research and publications on copyright, AI, TDM, design law, and international IP systems have been featured in THEMIS, De Gruyter, Kluwer Law International, and the International Encyclopaedia of Laws.

He previously founded an award-winning IP and cyberlaw practice in Colombia and served as Business and Legal Director for Sony Music Entertainment in the Andean Region. His work has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Chambers and Partners as one of the leading entertainment and IP practices.
