Legal framework · August 19, 2026
State of Emergency
On August 19, 2026, the Colombian government declared a State of Economic, Social and Ecological Emergency (Decree 1261 of 2026) for 30 days across 15 departments affected by the August 10 earthquake. The declaration opens the door to measures on housing, employment, credit, taxes, public services, education, health and justice; the specific rules will be issued in the coming days through decrees. We will explain what they mean here as they are published.
