1. Controller and scope

IZQUIERDO coordinates Colombia Earthquake Legal Response and acts as the controller of the data collected directly through these forms, to the extent provided by applicable law. This policy concerns the information collected for this initiative and does not replace other policies that may apply to services or sites other than IZQUIERDO.

2. Data we may collect

Depending on the form used, we may collect:

• name and contact details;
• city, municipality, department, country, or general location;
• preferred language;
• a general description of the legal need or of the consequences of the earthquake;
• type of requester and general level of urgency;
• for volunteer professionals: organization, jurisdiction, practice areas, languages, capacity, and availability;
• technical information reasonably necessary to operate and protect the site, when generated by the web infrastructure used.

3. Purposes of processing

We may use the data to:

• receive, review, organize, and classify requests for assistance;
• contact the people who submit a request;
• identify potential lawyers, clinics, organizations, or other appropriate resources;
• facilitate a referral or connection, where possible;
• administer the network of volunteer professionals;
• prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
• comply with applicable legal, regulatory, or professional obligations;
• produce aggregated or anonymized statistics to assess the needs of the initiative, without publicly identifying requesters.

We will not use information submitted through the assistance forms for targeted commercial advertising based on a person's disaster situation.

4. Basis and authorization for processing

Where applicable law requires authorization, we request the data subject's consent via the corresponding checkbox before the form is submitted. Processing may also take place where another applicable legal basis or a legal obligation permits or requires it.

5. Who we may share information with

We may share only the information reasonably necessary with:

• participating lawyers, firms, legal clinics, universities, or organizations that may assess possible assistance;
• technology providers that support hosting, security, storage, forms, communications, or administration of the initiative, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations;
• authorities or other entities where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, or integrity of individuals or of the initiative.

A referral does not mean that the professional or organization has accepted representation. Before sharing especially sensitive information, we will seek to use additional channels and, where appropriate, obtain specific authorization.

6. International transfers and processing

Because of the international nature of the initiative, data may be processed or shared with participants and providers located outside Colombia, including the United States. Where applicable, IZQUIERDO will seek to carry out those operations in accordance with the legal requirements on international data transmission or transfer and will limit the information to what is necessary for the relevant purpose.

7. Retention

We will retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the request, coordinate the initiative, comply with professional or legal obligations, and resolve security or liability matters. Information that is no longer necessary will be deleted, anonymized, or retained only where there is a legitimate retention obligation.

8. Security

IZQUIERDO seeks to use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. No transmission or storage system can guarantee absolute security; for this reason, the initial form is designed to collect limited information and should not be used to send confidential documents or unnecessary sensitive data.

9. Data subject rights

Under applicable law, you may have rights to access, update, or correct your data; request information about how it is used; submit inquiries or complaints; revoke an authorization or request deletion where applicable; and exercise other rights recognized by applicable regulations.

Privacy-related requests should be sent through IZQUIERDO's institutional contact channel, identifying in the subject or message: “Colombia Earthquake Legal Response — Privacy”. Before launch, IZQUIERDO should publish in this section a specific email address or form for exercising these rights.

10. Data of minors

The forms are not designed for minors to submit information directly. Where a request involves a minor, it should be submitted by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult, unless applicable law provides otherwise. Please avoid including personal information about the minor that is not strictly necessary.

11. Attorney-client relationship and confidentiality

Submitting information through this page does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship with IZQUIERDO or with any participant in the network. Nor should it be assumed that information submitted through the initial form is protected by professional secrecy or attorney-client privilege. A professional relationship will arise only when the relevant lawyer or entity accepts it in accordance with their applicable professional rules and procedures.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the operation of the initiative, in the providers used, or in applicable legal obligations. The date of the current version will appear at the beginning of this section.
